B Movie (private Collection)
A cinematic squaring up of the creative process that begins with the prompt: But why make art? What is the creative force?
An ongoing collection in the making from lockdown under a hermetic deep dive into movie and documentary film watching with no particular intent and much, too much, self-reflection. Gradually a pattern of thought and purpose emerged.
The squaring of cinema’s rectangle became an intentional visual/wordplay reference to (the creative) struggle. I play with notions of stillness and motion (picture) in my attempt to express the ineffable and metaphoric subtext. Read alone or seen as linear narrative, these re-contextualized stills capture the dynamic internal push and pull of underwhelm, overwork and occasional success of ideas and artwork within the creative mind. Like a tongue-in-cheek meditative mantra: Be the Movie.
